展示場所の東京ミッドタウン日比谷は、高層ビルが立ち並ぶ都会の中心にありながら、日比谷公園や皇居と いった都内随一の自然を見渡すことができる。まさに人と自然が向き合うのにふさわしい場所である。 昨今の「ウイルス」の脅威は、改めて私たちが自然の中に生かされているということを気づかさせた。この作 品は軸を中心にして、半分は木材でできた自然の風を受ける翼、そしてもう半分はソーラーパネルで発電したエ ネルギーで風を起こす翼となっている。ソーラー発電はクリーンなエネルギーだが、内部に有害物質が使用され ている自然環境に影響のあるテクノロジーである。無風時は太陽光発電によって一定の回転する動きを見せる が、自然の風が吹くとそれを受けて翼の動きは機敏に変化する。薫風となって吹き抜ける自然の風と、発電とい う人間のテクノロジーを対峙させることにより、双方が時にぶつかり合い、また時に協働する。 春の暖かな風が吹く中で、都会の中心で自然と人の関係性に思いを巡らす。

Invisible Cooperation
(HIBIYA BLOSSOMS / Tokyo Midtown Hibiya / 2021)

Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, the exhibition site, is located in the heart of the city, surrounded by towering skyscrapers, yet it offers a view of some of Tokyo’s most significant natural landscapes, including Hibiya Park and the Imperial Palace. It is a place where humanity and nature come face to face.
The recent threats posed by viruses have once again reminded us that we are sustained by nature. This artwork is centered around an axis, with one half consisting of wooden wings that catch the natural wind, while the other half consists of wings that generate wind using energy produced by solar panels. While solar power is a clean energy source, it also relies on technologies that incorporate harmful substances, impacting the natural environment.
When there is no wind, the piece moves in a steady rotation powered by solar energy. However, when natural wind blows, it interacts dynamically with the wings, causing their movement to shift and respond sensitively. By juxtaposing the natural breeze that flows gently through the space with human technology in the form of power generation, the work creates moments of both conflict and harmony between the two forces.
As the warm winds of spring blow, this artwork invites us to reflect on the relationship between nature and humanity in the heart of the city.
